Dr. Reza Kibria : Zainul Abedin (1914-76), “Shilpacharya (Great Master of the Arts), is rightfully acclaimed as one of the greatest painters Bangladesh has produced. The bold strokes, clarity, economy of line, testify to his technical brilliance, a talent that was combined with a deep compassion for the suffering of the poor and down-trodden of Bengal. His ink sketches of the Great Bengal Famine of 1943, which he drew while traveling through the countryside, became world-famous. Many of his greatest works are no longer accessible to the public, scattered all over the world in private collections.
