Afreen Ahmed: A local community leader from Tower Hamlets has been awarded the prestigious Tower Hamlets Civic Award on 23rd April for her remarkable contribution to improving lives across the borough.
Nasima Islam, founder of Wish Foundation, has led a team of volunteers providing weekly free food to homeless individuals, refugees, asylum seekers, low-income families, and isolated elderly people in Tower Hamlets.
In addition to the food support programme, Wish Foundation runs a large women’s mental health group, supporting women through weekly coffee mornings, fitness sessions, and empowerment talks.
“This award belongs to the entire community. We serve those who are often forgotten, and every food parcel or support session is a reminder that compassion still exists,” said Nasima Islam.
The Civic Award recognises individuals making a significant impact in their local area.
